Like Tony Soprano, Bill Gates invests in trash

Bill Gates and Tony Soprano have something in common. They’re both involved in Waste Management. When asked point blank by his daughter, Meadow Soprano, if he was in The Mafia, Tony’s answer was “I’m in the waste management business”.

Bill Gates’s involvement in with waste management is actually a little less vague than Tony Soprano’s.

Waterrecyclingnews.com reported today that “Gates has been buying millions of shares of Republic Services stock following that company´s recent merger with Allied Waste Industries Inc. in December.”

A recent filing with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission shows Gates owns about 42.5 million shares of Republic Services stock, or 11.2% of the total. Add another 1.35 million shares owned by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust, and the totals jump to 43.9 million shares, or 11.6% of the company.

Warren Buffett was also into trash, but he dumped his 11 million shares of Republic last year.
